Spill the Tea

woodblock print on Masa paper

72” x 36” 2024

This woodblock draws inspiration from various fairytales, particularly The Island of Happiness by Madame Marie-Catherine d'Aulnoy, who coined the term "fairytale." While D'Aulnoy is less recognized than her male contemporaries, her stories feature strong, complex female protagonists. Spill the Tea also incorporates elements of Greek mythology, allusions to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, and references to Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, blending these influences into a rich, multifaceted narrative.
